Tachometer sending unit 1967 plymouth gtx? Where s the sending unit located on my gtx...i want to get it working but can,t find it.. I,ve seen these tachs for sale on ebay...Some have had a small round sending unit sold with them..

Bert L replied: "There was no sending unit. The tach gets it's signal off the small coil wire that goes to the distributor. It is doubled up on the 11/32 nut on top of the coil."

dodge man replied: "look in under the dash your talking about a control unit not a sending unit, good luck. PS if your car has a console pull it up and look under it if the tach is located in the console, the control unit was never too far from the tach."

chewy replied: "The OEM tach in my 68 is wired from the the coil wire circuit. It is built into the wiring harness for my car and splits out of the engine wiring harness to the internal harnes. You will need to get a 67 technical service manual. Find the coil on the wiring diagram in the middle of the electrical section. ID what color the wire is in the engine compartment. Follow it to the bulkhead connector on the diagram to a specific pin. Wire Color is listed on the diagram. Then ID the wire on the internal wiring harness on the internal wiring diagram and follow the wire to where it terminates. Identify the color and stripe if it has one. That is the wire you will need to hook to the tach to get an RPM reading. It can be tough laying on your back on the floor of the car, but thats the only way I can recommend doing this without having to run a separate wire from the coil to your new tach. Not sure what you saw on e-bay, but for these mopars, you shouldn't need, nor have I ever seen a sending unit for a tach. Seen them for Temp and Oil, but not a tach."

1967 GTX Tachometer sending unit..? Where is the tachometer sending unit located?I have a 67 gtx with factory tach....I know that theres a sending unit but were is it??? Plymouth GTX With Factory Tach.

k1200r_sport replied: "'67 huh? It should use the ignition coil as a pick-up. An after-market tach. should do the same, just connected directly at the coil since it's easier. Should have three or four wires, Green to the positive (+) of the coil, Red to the negative of the coil, white for illumination and black or brown for ground if not grounded out through the cluster itself. The wires don't have to connect directly at the coil itself, however they have to be in the same circuit as described (e.g. green can connect at the ignition switch and red can connect at the side of the distributor)."

What color is sending unit wire for the fuel gauge on a 66 Chevy ? I bought a 66 Caprice, the previous owner use to drag race the car, he cut the tachometer wires on the in dash tach, and the fuel gauge wire under the dash. Before I completely rewire the entire vehicle, can anyone tell me, the color codes for the wires, or at least the color of the wire for the fuel sending unit ?

Life replied: "brown"
