About Keychain Flash Drive in Questions
Has anyone heard of a mini flux capacitor flash drive or keychain? I'm going to make a flux capacitor flash drive if there isn't one in existence. It's actually 1.21 gigawatts.

gooeypringles replied: "Yeah, thatd be kind of hard though, i dont know where youd find the necessary 3.9 jiggawatts to get things moving in it."

frank21142226 replied: "Been watching Back to the Future ??"

what if flash drive, thumb drive or keychain drive? so, wht the difference between pen drive and this....?????????

cpmatho replied: "They are all the same thing. I'm guessing the "if" was supposed to be a "is". Its a small device that can be used for storage purposes and comes in different storage sizes. Can be used for putting photos, videos, music, documents on. Storage size varies from 128MB to 16GB. =] EDIT!============================= THEY ARE ALL THE SAME THING!!!"

How to delete document files off flash drive? I am hoping to free up space but understand this may not do it? I filled up my first little keychain flash drive and was shocked by how little it held. Is there a way to delete files AND --- ta-duh -- GET the space BACK? What do most people recommend with flash drives? Buy one with huge memory and have less to worry about losing, or get several small ones to bounce around so losing one is not a complete disaster? I have a mac model which does not have floppy discs which were sure convenient. Only flash or burned CD I guess, god forbid. ADDED LATER here since I don't know how to respond to answers otherwise. THANKS for responding everyone. In fact, it made me go back and try again. I had to make sure I opened the flash via my FINDER, and although i could not Press Delete to get ride of them, I did discover that if I dragged the items to the Trash can I got them out that way. And the bonus was that I WAS able to free up the space for new documents afterwards. I had read somewhere that some flash drives do not "give back" free space but this one did. Thanks for the suggestions about how many to have, too.

Colanth replied: "1) I carry a pocketful of SD cards and a few card readers (they turn the cards into flash drives). 2) Deleting the files should free up the room they took."

bLoNdErRr...=/ replied: "I would do like a bunch of small ones with certain things on it. If you know what I mean... email me if u don't understand what I mean. good luck! =]"

Brian replied: "Well to free up space I always thought you just hooked it up to your computer and deleted it. But if you want to keep these files, make sure to save them into a file on your computer."

Corbin replied: "You can actually Delete Files on your flashdrive like it's a normal floppy disk that you can re-use. Plug the flashdrive into your USB port. Open the flashdrive's folder/window. Choose the files that you don't want to use any longer. Press Delete. Simple. I advice that you can get 2 flash drives, one that you can just carry around and the other one should contain important files for backup and can be kept in your place. Personally, I have a Playstation Portable with 8Gig memory that I can also use for File storage (just like a flash drive) and I have a back up 1Gig mp3 player that can also act as a flash drive."

The Michael Ronson Show replied: "plug it in go to computer right click removable device explore right click the file to delete"

What is the best portable usb flash drive? I want something that is very sturdy and maybe that I could put on my keychain.

Muffy replied: "Transcend or Kingston .. both are very robust and reliable though priced a bit on the higher side"

jafrancis1 replied: "the best portable usb flash drive you can get is a pny technologies usb 2.0. It is lightweight, versatile, and you can take with you anywhere you want to go. You can put this usb on a keychain. It is also very sturdy and transfers files with ease of use."

nickillerocks replied: "depends on how much memmory you want. maybe a swiss army knif with a usb drive on it"

MG85 replied: "Try the Lexar Jumpdrive Sport. It attaches to your keychain and comes right off to connect into the USB. It comes in many different storage sizes too."

I was given a TAO Digital keychain with pics from the event I was attending. How can I get the pictures off? So I'm at this event with star from my favorite TV show- and I get my picture taken with them. As we leave, we are given the keychain with the pictures on them- the keychain is not a flash drive, and I don't want to have a 1 inch pic to remember the evening. Anyone know of a way to get the picture off this tiny digital frame?

Jimmy replied: "You can download the software for the key chain from the website,. My sister gave one as Christmas gift, I was never able to get images off of it. I could move images to it, edit and delete images on it, but I never figured out how to get images off. From what I understand, the key chain downsized the images to save space, any image you have will be small anyway."

The Quest for the Perfect Flash Drive? I am trying to figure out what kind of usb drive to buy for my cousin, who is turning 13 next week. I have found my own perfect flash drive in the pqi i810, as it is retracting and small enough to wear on a chain, (I highly recommend it if you're in the market.) He, however, is a burly, awkward pubescent with 3 siblings under 4, so I think he would need something a little more...sturdy, and difficult to lose. I've checked around but I can't seem to find something which fits my specifications, so I'd hoped someone here has found just the thing. I'm looking for a drive which: - Has between 2 and 16gb of storage space (preferably either 4 or 8) - Has a standard metal connector - has a hard casing (a rubber sleeve would be fine, so long as that isn't the only thing the connector erm, connects to. - doesn't have an easily misplaced cap (a swivel hinge, a retracting connector, or just some way in which to attach the cap to the drive when not in use) - Costs somewhere between $15 and $60 Bonus if: - It does not include U3 software - It has a place to attach a lanyard/keychain Please, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Mr.Amazing replied: "OCZ and Kingston are probably the most reliable. However I have heard recently that Patriot has made the fastest for reading from and writing to the key. Here is the link to the 8GB version and with 33 reviews it rates as a 5/5"

Andrew S replied: "Personally I strongly dislike the retracting connector style. They are not particularly robust and the connector end is always left open meaning it gets full of fluff if it lives in a pocket all the time. Personally I no longer buy actual USB flash drives. Instead I found a smallish SD card reader in a local pound shop here in the UK. It is a style where you can stick a card in, put the end cap over it, forget it is a card reader and treat it simply as a flash drive. I've found the same model at the site given as a reference but that is three times the price I pay for mine. Of course that is a UK site so you'll have to track down something similar in the US. The advantage of this approach is that it gives you a second chance: if the card reader gets damaged pull out the SD card and drop it into a new one with your data intact. It does have an end cap that could get lost but at a pound a time for a replacement reader it isn't something I consider worrying about, I just keep a few spares in hand. I've actually found that a card reader and SD card combination actually works out cheaper than the equivalent USB drive as well."

cdabexx replied: "I found an 8GB flash drive at Meritline.com for 15.99 shipped. You can't beat their prices. It looks sturdy as well."

What's a good flash drive for me? I'm in the market for a USB flash drive. Not too concerned about features or looks. I would like it to be at least 2 GB, as I'll be using it to store 8-megapixel photographs. I also plan to keep it on my keychain, so smaller is better. I don't want to spend more than about $20. And I would prefer to be able to pick it up from a store, rather than having to order it, pay shipping, and wait a week. Anyone know of one that fits, or one that almost fits? Thanks.

EDGE Tech Corp replied: "Go to Staples of Wal-Mart and get a Kingston or SanDisk or PNY flash drive. If you want something nice, and can get over the week of wait time, check this out.... and you can get a 4GB keychain drive just a little larger than a quarter for $20."

do mangnets affect flash drives? i have a magnet to open the door for my dorms, and i want to put my flash drive on the keychain with the magnet. Will I lose the data in the flash drive?

Sporadic replied: "No the magnet doesn't affect flash drives the drives don't use magnet to store the information it uses a silicon chip. It will be fine."

michael n replied: "no. flash memory is nonmagnetic."

Connor W replied: "yes it does all our info willbe erased!!"

Cheemie replied: "Yes they do! I put a mobile phone on top of a hard drive when it was plugged in and all. Bam! Freak out!"

rob K replied: "yes magnets affects yr PC in general, be really carefull you can damage yr hd, the hd use a magnetic field to store info any magnet will destroy it."

D. M replied: "From experience, magnets will affect all types of memory storage. Be safe, don't do it."

Lyle J replied: "okay heres what you need to know, 1) magnets do not affect flash drives whatsoever, its a scientific fact. 2)actually magnets, any that a regular person would have like refrigerator magnets all the way up top the 1/4" super strong neodymium magnets wont even affect a hard drive when placed near them. in order to even erase anything like a hard drive with a magnet you must use a SUPER magnet that has a focused beam and strength all into about 1mm of area so all those people who tell you to keep the hard drives away from magnets, id be more worried about it damaging other components, idk what though.... so no dont worry about the flash drive ive done it plenty of times and never had magnets affect them , and its just a fact they wont because the way the information is stored makes it incorruptible by a magnet."

Is my keychain heavy enough to hurt my cars ignition? I have 2 keys, a bottle opener, a flash drive, and a reward zone card (small). Should I worry about damaging the ignition or am a safe?

Vipassana replied: "Nope. I've had significantly heavier key chains. Not a single bit of damage. Ignition cylinders are built like a door's lock. Pretty solid pieces of metal inside, that rotate. Not much that can get damaged easily, unless you're trying."

battle_axe86 replied: "Note at all, i have seen people with much much more than that on their keychains and it never did a thing to the ignition. I have never heard of anyone having that happen, ever."

Bub replied: "Depends on how old the car and ignition cylinder is. The older the car, the more worn the cylinder already is and yes it can affect it over time. If it is worn enough, it may actually turn the switch off if you hit a hard bump."

seventyseventy@rocketmail.com replied: "dumbest question ever."
